Mandalas

Today I wanted to share something a bit different with you.

Do you find yourself seeing more mandalas on your social media these days? Do you find yourself attracted to them too? It is no surprise that we are attracted to mandalas because they illustrate the core of who and what we are. When also using colour therapy to colour them in, it packs a powerful meditation and healing session.

Sarah Wilder from The Fifth Element Life has a successful business designing the most stunning mandala rings. I have a "communication" ring and was lucky enough to have Sarah herself design me a custom mandala tattoo (for which I'm saving for slowly!). Sarah has recently released a mandala colouring eBook 111 Mandala Meditation Magick Colouring E-Book ($22). I purchased it within hours of it being available and I'm obsessed! I've been doing them while watching a movie at night time mostly.

I've been using my 2 year old's worn out toddler textas to colour in those 4 designs. I've got some new pencils here to try out too and I've been inspired to give water colour a go, something I haven't dabbled in since high school! The palette in the picture below is from Office Works so I picked myself up a similar one on the weekend.

I'd love to learn to draw them myself one day, but for now I'm happy to just colour them in.

There's over 130 designs so I think I'll have my mandala itch scratched for quite awhile!

Mandala history... 

Mandala is a Sanskrit word which translates to "circle". It's a spiritual and ritual symbol in Hinduism and Buddhism, representing the Universe. According to Wikipedia "in common use, mandala has become a generic term for any diagram, chart or geometric pattern that represents the cosmos metaphysically or symbolically; a microcosm of the universe." the Swiss psychoanalyst Carl Jung has been said to pioneer the exploration of the unconscious through his own art making, where he observed the motif of the circle spontaneously appearing. The circle drawings reflected his inner state at that moment. Creating mandalas helps stabilize, integrate, and re-order inner life. According to the psychologist David Fontana, its symbolic nature can help one "to access progressively deeper levels of the unconscious, ultimately assisting the meditator to experience a mystical sense of oneness with the ultimate unity from which the cosmos in all its manifold forms arises."
